BODIES…The Exhibition is now open, at the West End MarketPlace, 603 Munger Ave., in Dallas’ historic West End. This is the first visit to Texas by this international show which is currently receiving worldwide acclaim and attracting nearly 15 million visitors from cities including New York, Washington DC, Las Vegas, London, Madrid, Sao Paulo and more. The Exhibition will remain in Dallas through May 23, 2010.

Both captivating and edifying, BODIES…The Exhibition unveils the many complex systems of organs and tissues that drive every aspect of our daily lives and unite us all as humans. Featuring more than 250 real human specimens consisting of whole-bodies and individual organs that have been meticulously dissected and preserved through an innovative process, BODIES…The Exhibition will enlighten, empower, fascinate and inspire.

BODIES…The Exhibition offers an amazing look into the human body. Unlike biology and anatomy models and diagrams, at BODIES visitors are able to peer at real 3-Dimensional human bodies that have been preserved for the Exhibition.

It is a field trip destination like no other. The Exhibition allows people of all ages access to sights and knowledge normally reserved only for medical professionals. Take a look inside the human self to better understand how one’s intricate and captivating body works and how people can be more informed about their own health.

The Exhibition provides visitors an up-close look inside the skeletal, muscular, reproductive, respiratory, circulatory and other systems of the human body. Many of the whole body specimens are dissected in vivid athletic poses, allowing the visitor to relate to everyday activities. In addition, authentic human specimens illustrate the damage caused to organs by over-eating and lack of exercise. A healthy lung is featured next to a black lung ravaged by smoking in a vivid comparison more powerful than any textbook image.

“This Exhibition will offer the lay person an opportunity once only reserved for students of medicine. As a cardiologist, I am very pleased that the educational aspect of BODIES…The Exhibition will bring the amazing workings of the internal body ‘to life,’” said Dr. G. Mark Jenkins, interventional cardiologist, Methodist Hospital Dallas; president of Cardiac & Vascular Interventional Group; and whose acclaimed research at Johns Hopkins and NIH led to the development of one of the drug-eluting stents that is used in millions of operations worldwide.

The human body specimens in the Exhibition are preserved through a revolutionary technique called polymer preservation. In this process, human tissue is permanently preserved using liquid silicone rubber that is treated and hardened. The end result is a rubberized specimen, preserved to the cellular level, showcasing the complexity of the body's many bones, muscles, nerves, blood vessels and organs. The full-body specimens can take more than a year to prepare according to Dr. Roy Glover, chief medical director, BODIES…The Exhibition .
